This commemorative piece, the Black Beret, was created by Rod Mench to support the strength and dedication that our troops exhibit. This piece is special to Colorado Springs because during the Spring of 1951, soldiers from the 10th and 11th Ranger Companies wore these Black Berets during their training at Ft. Carson before they deployed to Japan. Post Vietnam, morale throughout our troops was low and local commanders wanted a way to boost morale. The black beret was typically worn by armor and armored cavalry units. The Black Beret stand is a great way to remember your professional career in the military, or pay tribute to the soldier who has sacrificed in your life.
