The Checkpoint Charlie piece was created by Rod Mench to commemorate the well-known crossing point between East Berlin and West Berlin during the Cold War in 1947. Checkpoint Charlie was a symbol of the Cold War, it represented the separation of East and West Germany. The Americans and the Soviets briefly met at Checkpoint Charlie in tanks to face each other during the Berlin Crisis of 1961. This piece is very special and has substantial meaning for those who served during this time, and everyone who respects American War History.
